PRESS RELEASE
PAMPA ENERGY CENTER

December 13, 2012

On the morning of Saturday, December the 15th, the public is welcome to witness a change of the Panhandle landscape as the 300 ft. coal stack, boilers and associated structure will be removed in spectacular fashion using explosives at the Pampa Energy Center 6 miles west of Pampa Texas on Highway 60.

The Celanese Chemical Plant went into production in 1952. After closing the plant in 2008 the Pampa Economic Development Corporation was able to purchase the site in 2011, which included the coal boilers, utilities, railroad spurs, buildings, land and water rights, to be used as an industrial park.

The site has provided key economic contribution to the Pampa community and surrounding area since it was first purchased by Celanese in 1952 with professional and technical employment opportunities and significant tax revenues. The Pampa Energy Center is committed to continuing the legacy by providing a facility conducive to employment opportunities and economic development.
